Heat-shrink technology for district heating joints

Covalence makes the heat‑shrink sleeve systems that seal the field joints of pre‑insulated district heating and cooling pipes. A cross‑linked PE‑X backing and a dual‑adhesive system keep moisture out of the joint casing. The products are tested and certified to EN‑489:2009 (FFI).

The edges anchor, the centre seals.

RJS-E uses two adhesives for two jobs. A high-shear hot-melt at the edges anchors the sleeve in place against ground movement. A visco-elastic mastic in the centre forms the actual moisture seal and fills surface irregularities.

What are Covalence heat‑shrink sleeves used for?
Covalence heat‑shrink sleeves seal the joint casings of pre‑insulated district heating and cooling pipes. They keep moisture out of the joint and protect the insulation. They also suit water network and oil and gas pipeline joints.
Which standard is Covalence tested to?
RJS-E and FOPS are tested to EN‑489:2009 by the FFI. EN 489 defines the requirements for joints in pre‑insulated district heating pipes, so the products can be specified directly for district heating contracts.
Which casing diameters does RJS-E cover?
RJS-E covers casing diameters from 90 to 1200 mm. The sleeve is available in widths from 230 to 900 mm. We help select the correct size with the quote.
What is the Permanent Change Indicator?
It is a dimpled pattern on the sleeve backing that disappears once the correct shrink temperature is reached. It lets a finished joint be inspected visually afterwards, without a separate measurement.
What operating temperature does Covalence withstand?
The operating temperature of RJS-E is up to 50 °C, and 60 °C under an expansion cushion. The values come from the manufacturer datasheet and match district heating joint conditions.
