KMP-0001

The edges anchor, the centre seals.

KMP-0001. Longitudinal section through a joint: hot-melt at the edges, a visco-elastic mastic in the centre.

RJS-E heat-shrink sleeve, longitudinal section through a field jointSection through a field joint. A steel carrier pipe at the bottom, PUR insulation and a PE casing above it. The heat-shrink sleeve is wrapped over the joint, with a cross-linked polyethylene backing. Two different adhesives sit on its underside: a hot-melt along both edges and a visco-elastic mastic down the centre.Joint12345KMP-0001

The closure

KMP-0002. A wrap-around sleeve leaves a longitudinal overlap. The WPCP‑IV closure patch seals it, built the same way as the sleeve itself.

WPCP‑IV closure patch, transverse section at the sleeve overlapSection taken around the pipe. The casing sits in the centre with the wrap‑around heat‑shrink sleeve around it. The ends of the sleeve overlap at the top and form a longitudinal seam. The WPCP‑IV closure patch is applied over that seam, and uses the same cross‑linked HDPE backing and the same adhesive construction as the sleeve itself.Width 100 or 150 mm12345KMP-0002

The type-tested constructions

KMP-0003. Three constructions to EN 489-1:2019. The drawing carries no diameter: the type test covers casing sizes Dc 250 and 160 mm.

BG Industry's three type-tested joint constructionsThree longitudinal sections side by side. On the left the basic PE sleeve, sealed with butyl mastic at both ends and foamed on site. In the middle the PEX sleeve, where the insulation is made with pre‑fabricated shells instead of foaming in the joint. On the right the welded sleeve, which adds a circumferential electric weld at both ends to the butyl seal.PE sleevePEX sleeve · 2.1Welded · 4.112345KMP-0003

The compound flows into the pores of the surface.

KMP-0004. Magnified section through the pipe wall: steel, compound, mechanical overwrap. No primer.

Stopaq layer build-up on a steel pipe, magnified wall sectionMagnified section through the wall of a steel pipe. At the bottom the steel, cleaned by wire brushing to ST 2, so the surface stays irregular and not all rust has been removed. Above it the visco‑elastic polyisobutene compound, which flows into those irregularities and fills them completely. On top, a mechanical PE overwrap. There is no primer between the layers. No primer, no blastingMagnified12345KMP-0004

The termination

KMP-0005. At a line termination the casing and insulation stop. The DHEC end cap closes the insulation space against the carrier pipe.

DHEC end cap, longitudinal section through the termination of a pre-insulated lineSection through a line termination. On the left the pre‑insulated pipe: steel carrier pipe, PUR insulation and PE casing. On the right the carrier pipe continues uninsulated. The casing and the insulation stop, which would leave the insulation space open. The DHEC end cap is shrunk down from the casing onto the carrier pipe and closes that space, so water cannot reach the insulation.Pre‑insulated pipeUninsulated pipe12345KMP-0005
